Welcome to WasteNot (the “App”), a mobile application designed to help users reduce food waste by scanning food items, tracking expiration dates, generating AI-powered recipes from leftovers, creating shopping lists, and optionally sharing or donating excess food.

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the WasteNot mobile application (available on iOS and Android) and the website https://wastenot.site. By downloading, installing, accessing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By using WasteNot, you confirm that you are at least 13 years old (or the minimum legal age in your country) and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms. If you are using the App on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization.

2. Description of the Service

WasteNot provides tools to:

  • Scan and identify food items using your device camera
  • Track inventory and expiration dates
  • Generate AI-powered recipe suggestions based on your ingredients
  • Create shopping lists
  • Optionally post and view food donation/share listings with other users
  • View basic environmental impact information

Some features may require an internet connection and are subject to usage limits for free users. Premium features may be available through in-app subscriptions.

3. User Accounts

You may use the App anonymously or by signing in (e.g., via Google). You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the App for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
  • Post false, misleading, harmful, or inappropriate content in the donate/share feature
  • Harass, abuse, or harm other users
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or interfere with the App’s functionality
  • Upload content that infringes on the rights of others
  • Use the App to promote commercial activities unrelated to personal food sharing (unless expressly permitted)

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.

5. AI-Generated Content and Food Safety Disclaimer

Important: Recipe suggestions are generated by artificial intelligence based on the ingredients you provide. They are for informational and inspiration purposes only.

WasteNot does not guarantee the accuracy, safety, nutritional value, or suitability of any recipe. You are solely responsible for:

  • Checking ingredient freshness and safety
  • Following proper food handling and cooking practices
  • Considering any allergies, dietary restrictions, or medical conditions

We are not liable for any illness, injury, or damages resulting from the use of AI-generated recipes or information in the App.

6. User Content (Including Donations)

You retain ownership of content you submit (photos, item descriptions, messages). By posting content, you grant WasteNot a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, display, and distribute that content solely for operating and improving the App.

You are solely responsible for the accuracy and legality of any food donation listings you create. WasteNot does not verify the quality, safety, or condition of donated items and is not a party to any exchange between users.

7. In-App Purchases and Subscriptions

Certain features may require a paid subscription or one-time purchase handled through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. All payments are processed by Apple or Google according to their terms. Refunds are subject to the policies of the respective app store.

Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.

8. Advertising

The free version of the App may display advertisements (including rewarded video ads) through Google AdMob or similar providers. By using the free version, you consent to the display of such ads.

9. Intellectual Property

The App, including its design, logo, text, graphics, and software, is owned by WasteNot / CodeCrackers and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works without our prior written permission.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, WasteNot and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the App.

The App is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless WasteNot and its operators from any claims, damages, or expenses arising out of your use of the App, your content, or your violation of these Terms.

12. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the App at any time, with or without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms or is otherwise harmful. You may stop using the App at any time and delete your account.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

14. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall first be attempted to be resolved amicably.
